Romney Won't Talk About His Faith

Obama was called a "secret Muslim" which sounds
Like a bad guy in a movie by Roger Corman.
Mitt's refusal to discuss his religion makes me think
That he might be a "secret Mormon."

Remembering The L.A. Riots 20 Years Later

In our duplex down from Melrose, my
Wife and I knew this was no joke:
The air was full of anxiety, helicopters,
Sirens and plumes of smoke.

We felt that maybe we might still be safe
From all of those torrents
Of rage and resentment that exploded at
Normandie and Florence.

Then someone suddenly climbed over
Our backyard's wall ---
We thought this was it and soon even the
Sky would begin to fall.

The intruder didn't enter our yard: on the
Top of the wall he stood
Gazing all around at our pleasant but now
Besieged neighborhood.

This guy living behind us who we'd never met said
That he climbed up hoping it
Had a better view of the chaos. "Did I scare you?"
No, we both lied, not a bit.

Mitt's Speech At Ohio College Should Not Have Been Given To People About To Operate Heavy Machinery

Yet another (yawn) example that
Is singularly prominent ---
A good word to describe Romney
Is the adjective somnolent.

I'd explain this further & how Mitt's appearance
Was especially lousy
But just thinking about it and him is making me
Increasingly drowsy.

I Get It: Republicans Feel Comfortable Running A White Billionaire Against Obama

However ... the one big thing I just don't understand
is the
wisdom of not finding a rich guy with a shred of cha-
risma.

Jon Lovitz Calls Obama "A F_ _ king Asshole" For Saying The Rich Don't Pay Enough Taxes

Comics no longer getting attention
Left to their own devices
Sour like vinegar as they grapple
With their mid-life crisis.

Lovitz' viral rancid rant didn't turn out to
Be a new routine that was killer ---
Just another bitter "SNL" right-winger like
Victoria Jackson and Dennis Miller.

Why Isn't The Murdoch Phone Hacking Inquiry Finished Yet?

Because getting rid of Rupert
To put it bluntly
Is like peasants rising up to
Overthrow a county.

Such revolts
Against the vile
As a rule
Take a while.

In Honor Of The 100-Year Anniversary Of A Certain Ship’s Demise

Yes, it was stunning and epic
But aside from the Titanic
Another failure comes to mind
On a scale rather gigantic.

This one was on dry land --- not
Out on the raging sea
And has to do with the sinking of
The good ship KCET.

It boldly sailed away from PBS
And now the station is faced
Without the key shows on which
Its whole reputation is based.

It’s like going to a Broadway play
With a spouse or best buddy
Only to be told every role is being
Played by an understudy.

Al Jerome is the misguided captain
Many are now unsure with him
In charge. Even Gilligan wouldn’t
Go on a three-hour tour with him.

I can’t imagine who’s on Jerome’s side:
Maybe loyal liberal codgers?
He’s done damage like Frank McCourt
Caused to the L.A. Dodgers.

Speaking of McCourt, I do secretly hope
He and Jerome could nurse
Wounds together and team up with their
Midas touch in reverse.

If they could manage to buy al-Qaeda
I’m sure they could finesse
Terrorism going belly up and bankrupt
In eighteen months or less.

Mormons Reach Out To Minorities

This is nice and long overdue ... but it's
Obvious the direction here
Is this is an essential step to take during
This particular election year.

Romney's flacks will bristle if Mormon persecution
Is in any way hinted at --- or discovered
But their treatment of Hispanics, Blacks and women
Shows they've got discrimination covered.

Mrs. Romney Boldly Insists, "It's Our Time Now"

Ann --- you've created another campaign gaffe
That Mitt's spin doctors will now have to fix.
Ask Bob Dole how playing the entitlement card
Worked when he ran in 1996.

Obama's Photo Op In Rosa Parks' Bus

As History briefly stops to catch its breath
We have a chance to assess
How far we've come down a long and
Winding road called Progress.

To Avoid Going To Vietnam, Ted Nugent Went To The Bathroom In His Pants For Ten Days Before His Draft Board Appointment

In related news, if you hear of a Nugent garage sale,
And this exerts
The strong desire to head on over & buy something,
Stick to the shirts.

Back In The Day, When Comedians Got Old, Out Of Touch & Unfunny, They Just Stopped Performing

Now they no longer face that oblivion
There's a new way to work it:
Become Republicans and then hit the
Right-wing show biz circuit.

Screenwriter Joe Ezsterhas Says Mel Gibson Hates Jews

In other shocking news, it appears
Popeye is fond of spinach
And sources tell me Harry Potter
Enjoys playing quidditch.

If Fox News Had Been On The Air On August 28, 1955 In Mississippi

"Fourteen-year-old Emmett Till
Some individuals decided to kill.

Negroes at laws are often thumbing
Their noses: this kid had it coming."

Zimmerman Isn't Talking To His (Former) Lawyers But Has Been Chatting With Sean Hannity

This story keeps swerving like O.J.'s Ford Bronco.
We all might as well now just own up
That it's already a three-ring circus even before
Any of the clown cars have shown up.

With Santorum Out Of The Race, Time To Think Of A Good Romney Slogan

Trust me: this can really work.
It isn't just a mirage ---
"A chicken in every pot. A car
Elevator in every garage."

Maybe The Dumbest Thing Republicans Ever Did

They're known as the party that hasn't
Been a friend to Blacks.
For years --- no, decades --- they have
Heard all of these attacks.

All they had to do with Trayvon Martin
Was be gentlemen & step aside
And say, "This is tragic and it's a matter
For our legal system to decide."

That way to millions of Black voters
Their message would be direct
To show regarding this murdered boy
That they had some respect.

Even if they didn't mean it, this still was
The right direction; we're
(When I last looked) in the middle of
A Presidential election year

In which the incumbent (where I'm
Going with this isn't a mystery)
Is the first Black President in our
Entire nation's long history.

But, of course, they didn't do this & their
Pundits say, "Why should we?
Trayvon was a street thug like Obama ---
Just a Black punk in a hoodie."

If their main 2012 goal was beating Barack
They should be prepared to squirm
As Blacks livid at their treatment of Trayvon
Will give Obama a second term.

Olbermann Is Suing Current TV For Firing

The channel's owner, Al Gore, shouldn't worry.
Everything will remain status quo up
To the start of the trial when Keith predictably
Will revert to old ways & not show up.

Having A Child With Autism Is Like Moving To Another Country

(Editor's Note: April is Autism and
Poetry Awareness Month.)

You arrive one day on a detour
To these rather distant shores
Where you fail to recognize any
Of the names of local stores.

The language (of course) is foreign
Utterly peculiar to your ear
But you soon begin to pick it up with
A new word there and here.

Eventually, it seems normal. You see
The rose, not just the thorn there.
You keep adjusting and then wind up
Feeling like you were born there.

Whenever I See Al Sharpton Speak At Trayvon Martin Rallies

This is his bread and butter, what he does best
But what occurs to me
Is: is this appropriate for someone who now has
A show on MSNBC?

I agree with what he's saying but I'm also reminded
Of a phrase that never manages to fade
About how you can't cheer from the side of the street
And then also be marching in the parade.

Olbermann Is (What Else?) Fired From His Latest Gig

Keith, it seems to me
On MSNBC

You were hot
But not

On Current
Where you weren't.
